Born in Leeds in 1968, Selina Thorp graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with an Honours degree. She received first prize for the New English Art Club, Student Section, 1991; first prize at the Laing Art Competition in Harrogate 1993; Highly Commended in 1998 in London; and the Travel Scholarship award, New English Art Club 1993. Selina exhibits regularly, participating in mixed shows as well as many solo exhibitions throughout the country, including shows at the Royal Academy and the Royal Scottish Academy Summer Exhibitions.
Selina was commissioned by Yorkshire Forward 2003 – 2004 to complete a series of thirteen paintings of Yorkshire and was also commissioned by Leeds City Art Council to produce a painting of their show garden at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2004. She was one of the first artists in residence at Burton Agnes Hall in 1998, and has returned many years since then by invitation from Susan and Simon Cunliffe-Lister, where she spends time drawing and painting in the house and grounds.
